Ancient Roman

Bronze Roman brooch with a central disk and widened ends — 1st century AD. Period: Early Roman Empire. Proposed dating: 1st century AD. Material: Bronze. Typology: Ornamental brooch of Romano-Celtic tradition, akin to the Aesica type. Interesting Roman brooch made in cast bronze, of singular geometric design, characterized by a wide circular central disk and two widened ends, joined by a pronounced longitudinal raised ridge. On the reverse it retains elements of the ancient fastening mechanism, testimony to its use as a clasp to secure garments. This type of accessory blends the ornamental traditions of Celtic metalworking with the clothing of the Roman world during the early centuries of the Empire. Condition: Good overall integrity, with an attractive dark green archaeological patina, mineral deposits, and signs of antiquity. A distinguished piece of Roman personal ornament, especially interesting for its unusual geometric composition and the preservation of elements of its fastening system.
