Ancient Roman Stone Latin inscription «FABIANVS» - 18 cm

Concise inscribed stone fragment with a Latin inscription, 'FABIANV[...]' Important carved stone fragment of epigraphic character, rectangular in shape and notable weight, with an inscription incised in large capital letters. On its frontal face the reading 'FABIANV[…]' is clearly preserved, probably corresponding to the Latin personal name FABIANVS / Fabianus, with the end of the inscription affected by the fracture of the piece. The letters, deeply incised and of relatively regular execution, show an aesthetic of classical lapidary tradition. The piece retains a markedly eroded surface, with losses and wear compatible with prolonged exposure and architectural reuse. The sides and edges show ancient fractures, indicating that it probably formed part of a larger element, possibly a funerary, commemorative or architectural inscription. Because of its physical presence, size and epigraphic character, it constitutes a piece of great decorative impact and special interest for collectors of archaeology, epigraphy and classical antiquities. Material: limestone or similar stone material. Inscription preserved: 'FABIANV[…]'. Measurements: approx. 18 x 68 × 23 cm. Weight: approx. 50 kg. Conservation status: fragmentary, with superficial erosion, losses, impact and wear typical of its ancient age. Inscription clearly recognizable on the main face. Catalog note: the reading 'FABIANV[…]' is compatible with the Latin name Fabianus. Dating and exact cultural attribution should be considered pending confirmation through archaeological or epigraphic specialist examination.
