ROMAN AMPHORA OF AFRICAN TYPE IID, 3rd-4th CENTURIES Large marine amphora in terracotta, with a cylindrical body and neck flanked by two slightly rounded handles and a flattened flared lip. Orange terracotta amphora, featuring a long, almost cylindrical body that tapers slightly into a cone toward the bottom. The lower part narrows in a curve to end in a long, slender tip. The shoulder forms a flattened truncated cone, clearly distinguished from the cylindrical body by a soft but short break in profile. Above it rises the neck, shaped like a steeply inclined truncated cone, separated from the shoulder by an angle and from the funnel-shaped mouth by a groove. Two ribbon-like handles, slightly stretched upward, are fixed to the neck and descend vertically to the shoulder. Presence of marine concretions and light incrustations. Cracks stabilized at the level of the shoulder and the belly. No gaps. Numerous marine concretions. Height: 118 cm (129 cm high with the support) - weight 17 kg Provenance: Germany, H.T.A.
