Pendant encased in silver-plated metal, for better preservation, with Roman provincial bronze; Greek in its culture and design and Roman in its political and historical context. Minted between 27 BCE–268 CE with a mint in Phrygia/Lydia under the domination of the Roman Empire. It is mounted on a modern 925 silver cord-type chain. Obverse; bust of Athena with a Corinthian helmet, a common homage to the glorious classical tradition of the free cities under Roman rule. Reverse; interlaced hands (Dextrarum junctio) representing concord, loyalty or alliance pacts (homonoia) between cities or with the Roman emperor himself. The free cities of the Asia Minor region continued minting their own coins after being conquered by the Roman Empire. It is a piece of great interest as it shows how local cities communicated with Rome, using both the imperial symbols of peace and concordia and their own ancestral deities. Shipped with a legal declaration sheet. Customs duties outside the EU will be borne by the auction winner.
