André Rios - Echoes of Old Japan

This ink drawing captures a quiet corner of everyday Japan, where even the simplest storefront can hold a unique sense of character, history, and charm. Through expressive lines and delicate architectural details, the artwork celebrates the beauty of ordinary places that often go unnoticed. I am André Rios, a Portuguese award-winning artist based in the Netherlands. Japan has long been a source of inspiration for my artistic journey, and I return to the country every year to explore its culture, architecture, and the subtle beauty of everyday life. This artwork was inspired by my most recent trip to Japan. I am particularly drawn to the smaller streets, traditional shops, and unassuming corners that reveal so much about the country's identity. Through ink, I wanted to preserve not only the appearance of this storefront, but also the atmosphere and memories associated with discovering it. For collectors who appreciate Japanese culture, architecture, and the art of observing the ordinary, this piece offers a personal glimpse into Japan through my eyes, a small moment from a journey, preserved in ink.
