All auctions / Arts & Graphics / Andrea Benedetti (Parma or Modena?, c. 1615 – c. 1660) Attributed

Descriptio Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 130 × 92 cm; framed: 145 × 105 cm. An important still life with a distinctly Lombard character, constructed through a rich yet balanced composition in which various foods and objects are arranged on a table: fruits, bread, oysters, lemons, wine, and a prominent ham, an iconographic element uncommon in this genre and of remarkable visual presence. The work stands out for its realistic treatment of surfaces and textures, with particular attention to reflections, the materiality of the food, and the play of light. The composition reflects a sensibility characteristic of the 17th-century Lombard tradition, where direct observation of everyday objects is combined with a restrained and carefully calibrated organization. Andrea Benedetti worked in the Lombard region and is known for still lifes of striking descriptive realism, restrained lighting, and recurring motifs. Provenance: important Lombard residence. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-community shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. An export permit from the country of origin may be required.
