Andrée Simon (1896-1981) - Senza titolo

An interesting work attributed to painter Andrée SIMON (1896-1981), painted in mixed media on canvas and in good condition. Andrée SIMON, painter born in 1896 and died in 1981. Originally from Normandy, she taught drawing for several years before dedicating herself completely to painting, opening her first studio in Rennes in 1928. Her style is figurative and very close to Cézanne’s. She became friends with André Lhote, who taught her to paint in Mirmande, in the Drôme, and with whom she discovered the village of Gordes, a real crush. With her husband, she bought a house there and lived there for forty years. Afterward, many artists joined Andrée Simon and André Lhote, including some of international fame such as Victor Vasarely, Serge Poliakoff, Marc Chagall and Jean Degottex. Andrée Simon then devoted herself to abstraction. For her it was a natural and obvious step. She drew inspiration from observing trees, clouds, and all the effects of light. This abstract art, initially geometric, then becomes lyrical. But nothing is left to chance. Andrée Simon “builds” her works according to a very personal artistic approach. She lets her emotions run free and masters them through a process derived from her work and from an self-imposed method. In this way, she attracted the attention of enlightened art enthusiasts and critics with whom she maintained close relationships, such as Belon, Degand and Estienne. Let us not forget that she was a woman in a misogynistic environment. The art world was, above all, a world of men. Yet, thanks to her talent and work, she established herself as an artist who could not be ignored, with her distinctive talent.
