Angelo Davoli (1960-2014) - S-15 Struttura

This impressive painting by Angelo Davoli depicts a monumental industrial construction, consisting of a tall cylindrical silo and a geometrically built factory building, which starkly stand out against a deep blue sky. The artist opts for a carefully balanced composition in which clean lines, strong volumes, and pronounced light-dark contrasts are central. The clear sunlight casts large, almost abstract shadow surfaces across the metallic surfaces, while subtle rust traces and weathering give the buildings a lived-in character. Notably, there is a contrast between the cool blue tones, the warm white facades, and the jet-black silhouettes of the roof structures. The absence of human figures creates a quiet, somewhat mysterious atmosphere, in which industrial architecture is given a nearly monumental beauty. The work teeters between a precise, realistic depiction and an abstract play of color, form, and light, elevating an everyday industrial subject into a powerful, poetic composition. Angelo Davoli (1960–2014) was an Italian painter, born in Reggio Emilia, who gained particular recognition for his impressive, photorealistic paintings of industrial landscapes and architecture. After a technical pre-education, he studied painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna. From the late 1980s, he developed a completely individual visual language in which abandoned factories, silos, chimneys, and industrial installations took center stage. With an exceptional sense of perspective, light, and color, Davoli transformed these everyday structures into monumental, almost timeless tableaux. A hallmark of his work is the bright blue skies, sharp architectural lines, and the conspicuous absence of human figures, which give his paintings a tranquil and sometimes melancholic appearance. His art explores the relationship between nature, technology, and human influence on the landscape, wherein industrial buildings almost assume the meaning of modern cathedrals. Davoli exhibited both in Italy and internationally, including in 2002 at Galerie Hof & Huyser in Amsterdam. After his death, the Archivio Angelo Davoli was established in 2015 to preserve and promote his artistic legacy. Technique: Oil on canvas.
