Annalisa Zungri - Qualcosa sotto la superficie

Oil painting on canvas, 60x60. "Something presses beneath the surface" alludes to the inner presence that cannot be told directly, but emerges in the body, in the subject's posture, in the light and in the matter of the painting. The female figure protagonist of the painting eludes the observer's gaze: the face is partially hidden, leaving only the nose and lips visible, while the eyes and forehead remain outside the frame. This compositional choice aims to shift the focus from individual identity to the silent expressiveness of the body. The neck and shoulders, gathered in an intimate and closed posture, suggest a dimension of recollection/withdrawal. The palette, built on warm and natural skin tones, accompanies a painting practice centered on the relationship between light, volume, and form. The skin is rendered with soft transitions of ochre, pink, and browns, while violet shadows define the neck and clavicle. The light, light-background aims to let the tension of the body emerge. Even within the synthesis of volumes, the painting preserves a search of a realistic character, seeking a balance between observation and interpretation.
