Chinese poster – Lei Feng, model of the revolutionary soldier – 1965 – 74.5 × 51.5 cm Description Beautiful antique Chinese poster depicting Lei Feng, the famous soldier of the People’s Liberation Army who became one of the great symbols of Maoist propaganda. The title « 伟大战士雷锋 » means “The Great Warrior Lei Feng.” He is shown in winter uniform, weapon in hand, in a heroic staging characteristic of Chinese imagery of the 1960s. The printed inscriptions at the bottom indicate, in particular, Shanghai People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, a first edition in September 1965 and a 4th edition in October 1965. The photograph is credited to Zhou Jun (周军). Dimensions: 74.5 × 51.5 cm. Color print on antique paper. Some slight marks and signs of aging are visible on the edges, but overall it is well preserved and the colors remain vivid. A Chinese poster especially evocative of the political and military iconography of the Maoist era.
