This ring is a cosmic marvel. A wreath of blue sapphires surrounds a round old-cut diamond. The antique diamond weighs 1.85 carats and possesses an impressive fire: In the sunlight, the slightly warm-toned stone unleashes a rainbow-colored flurry of brilliant light reflections. All stones are set in white gold. Additional small diamonds on the ring shoulders make these parts of the ring sparkle as well. The idea of forming a circle of calibrated colored gemstones was already described as the “halo effect” c. 1900. It reminded jewelry designers of the light effects seen on certain planets in the night sky. This ring is a tribute to that historic design. The sapphire ring was, in fact, recently recreated in the United States. We discovered it—still without its center stone—at a small workshop in Chicago. Since we happened to have the antique diamond on hand at the same time, without a setting of its own, we didn’t hesitate for long before combining the two. The combination of the newly crafted ring setting and the large historic old-cut diamond at the center of the design enhances each other, resulting in a wonderful ring that features a historic design and high-quality materials. The ring comes with a detailed appraisal report.
