All auctions / Jewellery & Gems / Antique Bracelet with Bohemian Garnets In Gold-Plated Silver, c. 1890

This bracelet, dating from the late 19th century, is made entirely of sparkling red garnets. The piece of jewellery showcases the fiery gemstones in flower-shaped links, arranging them to create a striking overall effect. A large, four-tiered garnet flower forms the central focal point of the design. These are Bohemian garnets with a rose cut, which are shown to particular advantage here. The garnets are set in lightly gold-plated silver. The bracelet, with its classic design and beautiful Bohemian garnets, is in wonderful condition and can still be worn to great effect today. A secure box clasp and a safety chain prevent it from being lost, so it can be worn worry-free. This beautiful bracelet came to us here in Berlin. A glance at the 1889 catalog of L. J. Flowers of Salem, Massachusetts—the “Busiest House in America”—reveals that Bohemian garnets were already being traded worldwide as early as the late 19th century. Comparable bracelets can be found there. See here.
