Antique Cufflinks with Rubies, Sapphires, and Diamonds in Gold, c. 1900

These cufflinks, dating c. 1900, are elegant and classic in style. Each oval decorative element is connected by a short chain to an elongated toggle made of braided gold wire. The shield-shaped faces are adorned with gemstones: one cufflink features a ruby and a diamond, while the other features a sapphire and a diamond. The gemstones are connected by an engraved linear motif whose sweeping, dynamic lines evoke the whiplash ornament characteristic of Art Nouveau. The pair is crafted from 14-karat gold, which shimmers with a particularly warm and velvety luster thanks to an additional layer of fine gold, also called blooming. The cufflinks are in excellent condition and make a stylish accessory.
