Antique Diamond Band Ring with Floral Details, c. 1900

Many jewellery designs are based on very simple basic shapes – it is the details and execution that give them their true beauty. This is also the case with this ring, whose basic idea - a gold band ring with a diamond - is actually quite simple. However, the design is captivating: on the one hand, a hand-engraved relief of flowers adorns the golden band. The relief extends slightly more than halfway down the ring band so that only the relief and not the simple polished band is visible when worn. In its center, the ring then showcases a cushion-shaped old-cut diamond. The stone weighs around 0.64 ct and is held slightly raised by prongs, so that it stands out from the engraving thanks to its brilliance. The ring was created in the years around 1900, when previously rarely used floral and natural motifs found their way into jewelry art. The flowers here appear to be anemones, also known as anemones. There is an old legend associated with them: Adonis, the beautiful lover of the goddess Aphrodite, was fatally wounded by the god Ares in the form of a wild boar out of jealousy. As the goddess wept for her lover, her tears are said to have given rise to the anemone. The choice here seems particularly apt, as wide band rings were mainly worn by men at the turn of the century. Today, of course, there are no restrictions on the wearer - the heavy, comfortable gold ring is also suitable as an unusual wedding band.
