Curated collection of antique, vintage and modern rugs Antique Karachov Kazak Rug, South Caucasus, late 19th century Size: 6 ft 10 in x 5 ft 4 in (2.08 m x 1.63 m) Provenance: From a distinguished collector A collectible Karachov Kazak whose bold central geometry and strongly contrasting secondary forms embody the expressive character of South Caucasian village weaving. Rather than following the refined curves of classical Persian workshop carpets, Karachov weavers reduced ornament to its most forceful geometric elements. The resulting designs possess an immediacy that appeals equally to collectors of tribal textiles and admirers of twentieth-century abstraction. Condition Request Condition Report Lot #426 is in very good condition. The pile is mostly full and even, with scattered minor visible wear. Both ends are partially missing and hand secured, and the sides are secured. There is no dryness in the foundation. The rug is clean and floor-ready.
