Antique Necklace with Diamonds in Gold & Platinum, c. 1920

A special type of piece of jewellery enjoyed particular popularity at the beginning of the century. So-called “white jewels” combined diamonds with platinum or white gold to create crystalline, cool, and exceptionally elegant pieces of jewellery: Downright ethereally alluring, somewhat otherworldly, and thus exceptionally luxurious. The necklace presented here is a beautiful example of this style. Set on a platinum chain, it features a delicately openwork pendant. A platinum front panel is affixed to the body, which is crafted from high-karat gold. The elongated design is set with sparkling diamonds in historic old-cut and rose cut styles. At the bottom, the pendant flares out, revealing a bold floral ornament on delicate bridges. This type of pendant and necklace was extremely popular in Europe and America in the first decades after 1900 and was repeatedly reimagined in numerous variations. With its elegant design, the pendant can still be worn on many occasions today.
