Antique Revival Gold Brooch with Amethyst, c. 1985

Antique jewelry forms were revived several times over the graduated 20th century. The 1980s and early 1990s in particular saw a return to models from the supposedly good old days. Antiques were in demand like never before and belonged in stylish homes as a sign of good taste. Not only were old pieces of jewellery worn again, but new creations were also created in the spirit of the past. This piece of jewellery is a typical representative of this fashion. Crafted from yellow gold, the brooch has an oval, curved shield shape. Applied tendril and leaf ornaments on the front exude a nostalgic charm. The highlight is an oval amethyst cabochon in a deep purple color. The design is based on 19th century models, but the materials and workmanship, and not least the idiosyncratic formulation of the individual shapes, reveal that this is a piece of jewellery from the late 20th century.
