Antique Sapphire and Diamond Bangle, circa 1890

The grand ball, the highlight of the season, is slowly drawing to a close. The supper has been served, the band is still playing and the champagne has heated up the atmosphere. An almost oppressive warmth has taken over the ballroom. Longing for something cooler, we escape to the wide balcony with a view of the dark park and, in the distance, the lights of the city. A cool breeze blows towards us in relief, soft laughter reaches our ears, the stars twinkle and the moon shines pale from behind the treetops. Suddenly this view from the other end of the terrace... All these emotions of a ball night of the last century live on in the sparkle of the starry white and midnight blue stones of this bangle. Diamonds and sapphires are elegantly set side by side in delicate settings of fine rose gold - like a midnight greeting from the sparkling firmament. Delicate prongs hold the stones, which are flooded with light to reveal their full radiance. The bangle is in first-class condition and was clearly only worn on special occasions. A hand engraving inside the bangle reveals the name of the giver or the bangle's first wearer, "J.A.Hill", which allows us to locate the bangle, which came to us from the Sauerland, to England. A safety chain prevents the ring from being lost. The old cuts of the diamonds used are individual and the soft blue of the sapphires is enchantingly beautiful. An independent certificate confirms the quality of this jewel from Queen Victoria's England. It is enclosed with the bangle.
