Antique Toi-et-Moi Ring in Gold and Platinum, German, c. 1910

“Toi-et-moi,” you and me—this French term refers to rings in which two gemstones are given equal prominence in the design. Napoleon himself gave Joséphine such a ring to seal their romantic union. The two gemstones were meant to represent the two lovers—individual yet united, each complete in their own right yet complementing one another. In this ring, two old-cut diamonds totaling approximately 0.26 ct fulfill this symbolic role. They feature unique proportions, a white colour, and beautiful brilliance. The diamonds are set in platinum to highlight their white light. A small diamond rose sparkles in the center of the ring face. The curved ring band creates an embracing motif. The ring is in very good condition and features delicate craftsmanship. According to the hallmark, it was made in Germany; we date it c. 1910. We discovered it in Munich.
