Apparition of the Virgin - 17th Century Roman Master - Italian School

Descriptio Oil on panel. Measures 60 x 78 cm. A devotional composition presided over by the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child on a throne of clouds populated by cherubs and celestial radiance, while a kneeling Franciscan saint contemplates the vision with outstretched arms in an attitude of fervent supplication. The diagonal arrangement of the figures, the movement of the drapery, and the supernatural atmosphere reinforce the miraculous nature of the episode. The lighting focuses attention on the celestial group, creating a marked contrast with the darker areas of the surrounding landscape. The work follows the models of 17th-century Spanish Baroque painting, oriented towards the exaltation of faith through images of intense emotional and spiritual charge. It stands out for the richness of its Marian iconography and the expressiveness of the contemplative scene. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed. The absence of any mention of restorations does not guarantee that none exist. You may request additional information before placing a bid. This does not affect the buyer’s statutory rights.
