In the early 1990s schools received decommissioned Windows- and Apple-computers from large companies. Since there was hardly any educational software available for Apple computers, a group of teachers decided to develop software themselves. This led to the Stichting MUIS. The foundation organized open days, gave lectures on computer programs, and offered companies the opportunity to showcase their software. The decommissioned Apple computers were reinstalled and made child-friendly. In Leiden these computers were subsequently resold to children from less affluent families for a small amount, so they too could benefit from the new technological developments. Kees Schepel actively worked on reusing Apple computers. Together with other club members, he refurbished and adapted the computers. He was also the driving force behind the creation of the MUIS pin. This silver pin, in the shape of an Apple II computer and a mouse, is stamped 835 silver and bears a master mark that, if correct, refers to W. van Veluw B.V. from Zeist, known for its insignia, association pins, and corporate emblems. • Material: 835 silver (83.5% silver) • Weight: about 3 grams • Dating: 1990s • Notable for collectors of vintage Apple memorabilia, computer history, and Dutch silver insignia. See detail photos for condition and details. 2x vintage Apple Macintosh Computer paperclips made of aluminum were manufactured in the United States in the 1990s as part of marketing campaigns. Size per paperclip approx. 2.7 x 1.1 cm 2x Apple Macintosh Computer logo from the computer/display itself. A piece of history; The classic rainbow logo of Apple was designed in 1977 by graphic designer Rob Janoff. It replaced the very first Apple logo from 1976, which depicted Isaac Newton under an apple tree. Why an apple? According to Janoff, the logo needed to be simple and recognizable. The apple referred, of course, to the name “Apple,” but the bite also had a practical purpose: • so people wouldn’t confuse it with a cherry or other round fruit; • and as a pun on “byte,” a computer term. Why rainbow colors? The colored stripes had several reasons: • The Apple II was one of the first personal computers with a color display. • Steve Jobs wanted to show that Apple could display color. • The colors made the company friendlier and more approachable than the “serious” computer brands of that era. The color order was not exactly the rainbow order. Green was placed at the top on purpose because that’s where the leaf was. Size per logo about 1 x 0.7 cm 2x vintage Apple Macintosh Computer rainbow logo pins for the lapel of a jacket or blazer, from the 1980s. Both still in original packaging, both undamaged and unused. Size per pin about 1.5 x 1.2 x 1.2 cm Extra 1x Apple I.C. Extractor In an Apple parts list from 1984 the tool “APPLE I.C. EXTRACTOR” is explicitly listed, with part number 918-0014. I.C. stands for integrated circuit: an integrated circuit or chip. The tool was meant to gently pull chips from their pins on circuit boards without prying them loose with a screwdriver. To illustrate, a few special pages from these pages have been photographed to give an impression of the content and look. The attached photos form an integral part of the lot description. Carefully packed and shipped with tracking as parcel post.
