First vintage computer books/magazines – Plus various nice Apple Macintosh computer curios MOS Microcomputers – Programming Manual 1976 A particularly interesting piece of early microcomputer history!!! An original technical document from the period when microprocessors, as experimental technology, slowly began to form the basis of the personal computer. It concerns the MCS 6500 Microcomputer Family Programming Manual, published by MOS Technology, Inc. in January 1976. This is the original documentation for the 6500 microprocessor family, including the legendary MOS 6502. Size; ca. 28 x 21.5 cm Pages; 172 plus appendices = 242 Why this book is special • From 1976 — thus from the very early period of the microcomputer revolution. • Originating from MOS Technology, the company behind the 6502. • The 6502 would later become one of the most important 8-bit microprocessors and formed the basis for, among others, computer systems around the KIM-1, Apple II, and Commodore machines. • The handbook covers the programming side of the MCS 6500 family and includes information on instructions, addressing modes, subroutines, and memory organization. The original manual is cited, for example, as the source for the detailed description of the JSR instruction. • The document is also historically relevant to the development of the early KIM-1 and 6502 programming worlds. MOS Technology documentation is still used by enthusiasts and researchers of historical 6502 systems. Rare! Size per paperclip ca. 2.7 x 1.1 cm 2x Apple Macintosh Computer logo from the computer/display itself. Piece of history; The classic rainbow Apple logo was designed in 1977 by graphic designer Rob Janoff. It replaced the very first Apple logo from 1976, which depicted Isaac Newton under an apple tree. Why an apple? According to Janoff, the logo had to be simple and recognizable. The apple alluded to the name “Apple,” but the bite also had a practical purpose: • to prevent it from being confused with a cherry or other round fruit; • and as a pun on “byte,” a computer term. Why rainbow colors? The colored stripes had several reasons: • The Apple II was one of the first personal computers with color display. • Steve Jobs wanted to show that Apple could display color. • The colors made the company appear friendlier and more accessible than the “serious” computer brands of the time. The order of the colors was not exactly the rainbow order. Green was placed at the top on purpose because that’s where the leaf was. EXTRACTOR” is explicitly listed, with part number 918-0014. I.C. stands for integrated circuit: a microchip. The tool was intended to gently pull chips out of their pins on circuit boards without prying them loose with a screwdriver. To illustrate, a few special pages from these sheets have been photographed to give an impression of the content and look. The attached photos are an integral part of the lot description.
