All auctions / Sports & Leisure / Apple REFURBISHED Macintosh "SE FD HD" bundle - Macintosh - With replacement

[ UPGRADED & REFURBISHED ] Apple Macintosh SE FD HD – Fully Restored – Recapped – Working Original Hard Drive – 4 MB RAM Being an Apple enthusiast, I have collected RARE and VALUABLE hardware and software for my co-sentimental Apple companions. The lucky Macintosh Apple enthusiast can supplement his/her collection with this HARD-2-FIND collectable: the “Macintosh SE FDHD*” packed with "tons of pre-installed software and games of yesteryear", ready to use – and to give you a glimp of Apple's history. Furthermore. As a free gift you get the RARE (and hard-to-find) "world-famous" pixel-art picture of "Steven Jobs" (it's waiting for you on the hard disk). This "all-in-one computer" SE sold by Apple between 1987 and 1990 would still have cost a fortune today: $ 3,900 (that is 1000 DOLLAR more … than the regular SE), or about $ 8,400 in 2019 dollars. // A genuine piece of Macintosh history, lovingly restored and brought back to life. This Macintosh SE FD HD was found in non-working condition and has been carefully restored to working order. While the previous owner clearly wasn't particularly gentle with it, the important part is what is under the hood: this machine has received the essential servicing needed to make it a reliable and enjoyable vintage Macintosh once again. >> Fully serviced electronics – The analog board and logic board have both been recapped, addressing one of the most important issues commonly found in vintage compact Macintosh computers. – The original floppy drive has been serviced and works correctly. – Even more remarkably, the original vintage hard drive is still working and remains installed in the machine. – The Macintosh has 4 MB of RAM and runs System 7.1.1 (English). – A selection of classic software and games has been installed, including: .: Games:. – MacPong II – HangMan 10 – Blackjack – Lagio – Mystery Box .: Applications :. – TeachText – MacWrite 2 – MacPaint 2 This gives the new owner a ready-to-use vintage Macintosh experience straight out of the box. // Important: Cosmetic condition (read carefully) The case unfortunately shows several signs of its previous life. These are clearly visible in the many detailed photographs and should be carefully examined before bidding. Among the imperfections are: – A noticeable mark on the upper-right front area of the plastic case, which appears to be a saw mark. – Damage to the lower-right corner. – Damage to the lower-left corner. – A small dent in the plastic underneath the CRT display. – Several scratches on the CRT screen. These cosmetic imperfections are part of the history of this particular machine and do not negatively affect its functionality. The Macintosh has been restored with its working condition as the primary focus. For collectors who prefer a more pristine exterior, there is also a practical option: if the cosmetic imperfections are not to your taste, you could look for a non-working Macintosh SE with a better-preserved case and transfer the fully restored electronics and other components from this machine into it. This could provide an excellent basis for creating a very attractive SE while retaining the valuable restoration work already carried out. Please note: A few photographs in the photo series show a different Macintosh SE case (keyboard and mouse) for illustrative purposes only. These photographs are not part of the lot. Please pay particular attention to the detailed photographs showing the cosmetic imperfections of the actual case included in this auction, so you have a clear understanding of the item you are bidding on. >> Original Apple peripherals The bundle includes the highly sought-after Apple Keyboard II (M0487) together with the original "square" Apple mouse (not the rounded one). // To sum up: A Macintosh with character This is not a pristine museum-piece Macintosh — and the photographs make that clear. Instead, it is a properly restored and working Macintosh SE with plenty of character, combining its original hardware with essential restoration work. For the collector, the working original hard drive, recapped boards and serviced floppy drive make this a particularly interesting example. And for anyone who simply wants to experience a classic compact Macintosh, it is ready to be enjoyed. Please examine all photographs carefully before bidding. The photographs form an integral part of the description and clearly show both the condition of the Macintosh and the included items. // SOME HISTORY August 1, 1989: Apple gives the Macintosh SE a storage bump, courtesy of the new SuperDrive. It was an attempt at creating a Mac for businesses. And while it looked much the same as the original 1984 Macintosh, it included some impressive improvements under the hood in terms of processing power. The SE, was the first compact Macintosh with an internal HARD DRIVE, Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) for keyboard and mouse connections, and longer life thanks to the addition of a cooling FAN. The fact that in 2021 the computer still functions as before, proves that this design was very successful! The SE is seen as a big improvement on its predecessor - the Macintosh PLUS (20% performance improvement). By the way, the "SE" in Macintosh SE stands for "System Expansion". FDHD is an acronym for "Floppy Disk High Density". The Macintosh SE FDHD was the first compact monochrome Macintosh to offer a high-density 1.44 MB "SuperDrive" disk drive as well as a customized PDS expansion slot. I’m certainly not alone in my Mac SE love, either. A Mac SE sat on Jerry’s desk for the first few seasons of Seinfeld, before it was superseded by a PowerBook Duo, a Macintosh 6100 and finally a Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh. // IMPORTANT – WHY BUY FROM ME? (instead of other sellers) I am a Mac user from way back in the Legacy Era. I offer Vintage Apple computers as I would buy them myself. My admiration for Steve Jobs' legacy is so great that I want the Macs I sell, to stand "the test of time". Furthermore I only sell items I have "passion" for. Hardware-wise, all my sold computers are completely disassembled, cleaned – and, if necessary, repaired – in order to extend their lifespan. See pictures. // ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST & RECAPPING – DUST: the inside of a 30-year-old computer looks the same as "the collection-container of a vacuum cleaner" (read: a dust bunny). And as you know "dust" can ruin your electronics; – BOARD REVISION: both boards (analog + logic) were revised (thus: the non-functioned electrolytic capacitors were replaced). – LEAKS: 30-year-old batteries will someday leak, causing irreversible damage to the computer. The old battery is removed and replaced by a brand-new battery; Important. All configuration is done. So the mac boots up immediately. Long-Story Short. Computers from other vendors may look the same on the outside. I can guarantee you that the inside is very different! So if you want to enjoy your investment for as long as possible, choosing "wisely" is advisable. // GERM-FREE (ORIGINAL) APPLE KEYBOARD II & MOUSE (G5431) Read this paragraph carefully! During the cleaning process another keyboard/ mouse was attached. Check the pictures carefully to see which keyboard and mouse come with this bundle. The Macintosh comes with the accompanying Apple keyboard and ADB mouse. Those objects alone are already worth a fortune on auction websites. The keyboard (and mouse) are completely disassembled and cleaned professionally (see pictures). In my opinion it is my responsibility (as a seller) to provide a Germ-Free keyboard (a 2018 study found that 96% of the keyboards were contaminated with bacteria). So, I think we can agree that nobody wants a nasty, infected keyboard. This 100 % working, professionally checked “Vintage” bundle includes “working software and games”. >> Disclaimer: The computer only includes software & games that is classified as "abandonware" (= from the Public Domain, distributed over the internet and available freely, easily and readily). The software is supplied "free of charge" as a free service (for the retro-computing fan). // MORE INFORMATION This bundle includes: – the Macintosh SE FD HD [ with working hard drive – and 1.44 MB "SuperDrive" disk drive, assembled in Ireland. – Apple Keyboard II (assembled in Ireland); – coiled cable for Apple Keyboard; - Apple Desktop Mouse (one Button Vintage ADB), made in Ireland ; – Black Power cable (European); – Lots of rare RETRO software & games installed on de hard disk; – The "world-famous" pixel-art picture of "Stef Jobs". The Macintosh SE FDHD has the following built-in ports: – 2x ADB (Apple Desktop Bus) port; – DB-19 floppy drive port – DB-25 SCSI port – serial modem port; – serial printer port – sound output. The SE FDHD marks a crucial phase in Apple's computer line. And that makes this Apple Computer extremely RARE and EXCEPTIONAL … and therefore a good investment. In addition, the SEs that are typically sold have several cracks. This specimen has no single crack in the plastic. – Model Number: M5011 (assembled in Ireland); – System Software Z1-7.1 (English version); // IMPORTANT As these are "vintage items", they are being sold as. Normal signs of use and wear. But as an experienced connoisseur I can guarantee that these items are in GOOD condition (always keeping in mind their age). The numerous images are part of the meticulous description. Thus: judge yourself! Note: – The internal floppy drive works like a charm (formatting, reading disks, eject). That is unique! Usually the "EJECT mechanism" fails. So the famous paperclip method isn't needed for this Mac! >>> Some words on the yellowing*. Old computer cases are made of ABS plastics which contain at that time "bromine". The element bromine reacts over the time of years with UV light and causes some yellowing* (read: "aging"). Furthermore: not all parts yellowed evenly and equally (for example: the keyboard aged differently compared to the computer). Some sellers "Retr0bright" their computers with chemicals. I am totally agains "Retr0brighting", because it causes structural changes in the plastic, it's not permanent – and it devalues historical items! So pay attention when buying retro-computers (alarm bells should ring when the case is to "gray"). Don't buy this computer if you have a problem with "a bit of yellowing". FYI: this "yellowing" is hard to capture in pictures. Please check all close-up pictures! // RETRO-COMPUTING EXPECTATIONS – there are "normal signs of use" (which are to be expected with a device of this age). But as an experienced connoisseur I can guarantee that these items are in good condition! View the numerous images to make your own judgment! PS/ some tiny scratches, stains, … (and other ware-out) are difficult to capture on picture (but they are there … thus: please have realistic expectations!). – be aware that the mechanical parts of (almost) 35 years ago make (a lot) more noice (compared to modern computers)! Don't bid on this mac if you think that the aformentioned things will bother you. Please also have realistic expectations about "speed, etc"! – regarding performance … This is a vintage computer (collectable) – not a modern computer. Do your research before you bid. // PACKAGING & SHIPPING The SE FDHD bundle is packaged securely and carefully for safe shipment. Moreover, the SE bundle is shipped INSURED because of its precious value. Because of the precious content extra attention is paid to the CUSTOM packaging. This extra cost is included in the shipping price. "One More Thing" – Steve Jobs quote Don't miss this unique opportunity. Great opportunities don't come everyday! Let the bidding begin … for this legendary SE FDHD "One More Thing" When in doubt, check my positive customer reviews ;) (… because there are some "copycats" out there who copy my style/text and pretend to be me). There is only one "VISENTO"! That's me ;) // Important Note Regarding the Steve Wozniak Photograph: The signed photograph of Steve Wozniak visible in the last photograph is NOT included in this auction. The photograph is a personal message and autograph from Steve Wozniak expressing his appreciation and serves only as part of the background in the listing photos. It is shown for display purposes only and is not part of the lot being sold.
