For sale is an original, traditional betel nut box (also called sirih box) from Java, Indonesia. This handcrafted solid wood collectible features a charming, rustic texture with authentic patina and historical signs of use. Such compartment boxes were traditionally used during the ritual chewing of betel leaves and areca nuts in combination with lime paste and spices. The various compartments were intended to keep the individual ingredients neatly separated. Today, this fascinating piece of Southeast Asian folk art is ideal as a decorative organizer for jewelry, pens, or other small items in a vintage and boho style.
