Argentina. 100 pesetas 1916

This splendid antique document is a 'Primera de Cambio' (First of Exchange) historical bank bill issued by the Mendoza branch of the Banco Español del Río de la Plata in Argentina on July 22, 1916. It is a very important piece of financial and banking history (scripophily) linked to transatlantic commercial and migratory routes between Argentina and Spain at the beginning of the twentieth century. #Description and analysis of the document * Issuing Institution: The Banco Español del Río de la Plata was one of the largest financial institutions in Latin America, founded in Buenos Aires in 1886 to manage the remittances and capital of the large community of Spanish immigrants. * Transaction Content: The title, stamped with serial number 520, orders the payment "on demand" of the sum of One Hundred Pesetas (100 pesetas, the old Spanish currency) in favor of Doña Manuela Sanjurjo Valle. * Consideration Received: The payment is made against the value received from "La Viuda e hijos de Alvaro Guira" (the widow and children of Alvaro Guira), indicating a family or commercial transaction related to an inheritance or a protected remittance. * Foreign Endorsement: On the left margin is stamped in red the backing bank for collection in Spain: the Banco Español del Río de la Plata located at Alcalá 23 in Madrid and at the La Coruña branch (Galicia, the region from which the vast majority of migrants to Argentina originated). * signatures and Endorsements: The front bears the autograph signatures of the directors and the cashiers of the Mendoza branch of the time. The back of the bill (second and third photos) shows the forwarding signature for receipt ("Recibí") by an intermediary or final beneficiary, Mr. Marino Miranda. 1. The firm "Viuda e hijos de Alvaro": Represents the typical model of a family business or patrimonial succession at the turn of the century, common in the Argentine provinces rich in vineyards and commerce such as Mendoza. 2. The printing house "Kraft, Buenos Aires": The title reads at the top center "Guillermo Kraft, Buenos Aires." This is the signature of one of the most prestigious printing and engraving houses in Argentina, renowned for the artistic quality of its watermarks, sepia-toned decorative borders, and emblems that protected credit titles from counterfeiting. In the market of vintage paper collecting, scripophily, and postal history, this document presents in excellent condition, with intact paper, unmutilated edges, and crisp, non-faded ink. * Factors determining the price: The combination of the internal Argentine branch ([Mendoza]), the double destination stamp in Spain (Madrid/La Coruña), and the presence of Kraft’s typographic mark make the item highly attractive to collectors of Ibero-American banking history. IA Helper description Excellent historical value for Scripophily They are stored in A4 PVC envelopes. Good preservation.
