Art Deco Crucifix - White Metal - 1930-1950 - Pietà medallion - 51 cm

A characteristic and atmospheric standing wooden crucifix (table crucifix / altar cross) from the mid-20th century (estimated period 1930–1950). This object exudes the tight, geometric style of the late Art Deco and early Mid-Century period. The cross and the beautifully shaped base are made of dark-stained wood. The base features a beautifully detailed, round relief medallion with the image of the Pietà (Mary holding the body of the deceased Jesus). The corpus (the Jesus figure) and the medallion are cast from a sturdy, non-magnetic precious metal (white metal). An authentic detail that gives this crucifix extra sturdiness compared to fragile plaster variants. The cross is in a beautiful, authentic vintage condition with minimal signs of aging (see detail photos for an honest view of the varnish). A wonderful object for the collector of religious art or as a characteristic piece in a vintage/antique interior. Dimensions: height 51 cm width 26 cm depth 6 cm.
