A very beautiful Nansen medal, almost like new! Medal of the Nansen Committee for Famine Medal of the Nansen Committee for Famine The support medal of the Netherlands Nansen Committee is a historic bronze commemorative medal from 1923, issued to raise funds for the victims of the devastating famine in Russia. The medal is a collaborative artwork by two well-known Dutch artists and has a diameter of about 41 mm. Obverse (designed by Lambertus Zijl): Shows a tragic and piercing image of an emaciated, seated mother beside her starving (or dead) child. The inscription reads: NEDERL. NANSEN-COMITE. Reverse (designed by Chris van der Hoef): Shows two clasped, folded hands surrounded by thorny branches. This symbolizes the urgently needed relief. The inscription reads: HELPT ONS TOT DEN KOMENDEN OOGST IN ONZEN STRIJD TEGEN DEN HONGERSNOOD. Carefully packaged with Track and Trace by PostNL.
