Old Dutch Art Nouveau jewelry with fine filigree silver. Elegant pendant with hand-painted Delft blue inlay. The silverwork is assayed with the old silver sword. The master hallmark is unfortunately not clearly legible. The pendant is in very good condition. Dating circa the 1920s/1930s. The accompanying silver chain is about 60 cm long. The clasp of the chain is silver-plated (non-precious). Please see all the photos (also for the measurements). They form part of the description. Will of course be shipped well packed. Filigree silver refers to a technique in which silver wire is used to draw fine, thin threads and fill the material with extremely fine strands. This technique has been used for centuries and has led to the creation of unique and decorative objects, such as knife handles, snuff boxes, centimeter rulers, and jewelry. In the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, filigree silverwork was popular and formed an important craft in the Netherlands. The silversmith made a framework of thicker wire to make the object sturdy, and between these wires thinner wires were placed to fill in the framework. Filigree silverwork is not only aesthetically appealing but also suitable for and sought after by collectors.
