[ARTIFICIALIA] René LALIQUE (1860–1945) Perfume bottle, “Serpent” model created in 1920, made of molded blown glass with a gray enamel finish; the stopper features a serpent’s head with venomous fangs; the bottle’s body is oval and slightly flattened, engraved with the serpent’s sinuous body featuring gray-enameled scales Signed “Lalique” in relief on the reverse Height 8.5 cm Length 6 cm Width 2.5 cm Minor chipping Bibliography: -Félix Marcilhac, “Catalogue Raisonné,” ref. no. 502, ill. p. 331. The Serpent model was removed from the catalog in 1937 and not reintroduced after 1947
