A historically very important Asahiflex IIa 35mm SLR camera, produced by Asahi Optical Co. in the 1950s. This specific unit bears serial number 83674. The Asahiflex series has legendary status. It was the very first 35mm SLR built in Japan and laid the groundwork for later world-famous Pentax cameras. This model features a unique dual viewfinder system: a waist-level finder on top and a separate optical finder for eye-level use. The front panel is equipped with the distinctive dual flash contacts (FP and X). The camera is equipped with the accompanying original Asahi-Kogaku Takumar 50mm f/3.5 standard lens, serial number 93923. The lens has a smoothly adjustable manual diaphragm ring with a range from f/3.5 to f/16. Condition and notes: • Optical: The camera is in very good visual condition with minimal signs of use for its age (see photos). • Lens: The glass of the Takumar lens is clean and completely free of scratches. • Viewfinder: The matte screen is intact and clean. • Shutter: Shutter speeds vary audibly and visually when adjusted, but accuracy has not been tested with test equipment. • Mechanical: The mirror sometimes sticks (a known characteristic of this model after decades of inactivity). The camera is therefore offered in its current state (as-is), ideal for collection, display, parts, or as a basis for a service (CLA). Included: • Original brown leather carry/ready case with strap. See the photos for an accurate impression of the cosmetic condition of this camera. Carefully packed and insured shipping.
