At the Edge of the Shadow by Gary Westall Painting 14.0 x 11.2 :: What fascinated me most about this painting was the interplay of light and shadow. I drew inspiration from a photograph by James William Burke. I was particularly drawn to the stark contrasts between the warm sunlight on the path and the cool deep shadows beneath the trees. In my own painterly interpretation I wanted to capture this special atmosphere of light working with warm and cool tones soft transitions and bold shadows.
