ATTRIBUTED TO WILLIAM HOARE OF BATH (BRITISH 1707-1792) DOUBLE PORTRAIT OF CAROLINE (D.1814, SEATED IN A BLUE DRESS, WITH HER DAUGHTER (D.1839), IN A WHITE Oil on canvas 126 x 103cm (49½ x 40½in.) Caroline Wood (née Barker) married Captain Charles Wood (1731 – 1782) in 1770. They had three daughters and two sons. Wood’s grandson, Sir Charles Wood became Lord Halifax in 1866 having served as Whig Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1846 – 52. Henry Wood (1645 – 1720) depicted in lot 84, was Captain Charles Wood’s grandfather.
