Aurelius Augustinus - Hipponensis Episcopi Confessionum Libri - 1627

Rarest edition of one of the major texts of Christian literature, of spiritual autobiography and Western thought - Written at the end of the 4th century, the work takes the form of a long address to God in which Augustine revisits the different stages of his life in order to examine his moral, intellectual and religious journey - The early books recount his childhood, his education, his first experiences, his faults and the habits which, according to his own judgment, gradually pulled him away from the Christian faith - The autobiographical reflection however never limits itself to a simple recounting of memories, for each event becomes an occasion for meditation on human nature, sin, desire, freedom, grace and the search for truth - Aurelius Augustinus - Hipponensis Episcopi Confessionum Libri - 1627 - Natalem Carolum - Good condition of the binding, the work in its full period vellum, stains and wear from use, some minor defects on the cover, heads and corners worn, traces of laces, smudges on the edges, moiré-free spine - Good interior condition, stains and a few spots, title page printed in red and black and ornamented with a fine engraving, text fairly clean, good copy - Delivery service guaranteed within a few days –
