Austria – Ferdinand I (1835-1848) – Lot of 2 x 3 Kreuzer 1838 C, Prague – Uncirculated – 1.68 g each Empire of Austria – Ferdinand I (1835-1848) Lot of 2 coins of 3 Kreuzer – 1838 C – Prague Mint Very nice lot consisting of two specimens of the 3 Kreuzer 1838 C, struck under the reign of Ferdinand I of Austria. The two coins are particularly interesting because they show visible differences in the portrait and in certain engraving details, while belonging to the same date and the same mint. Obverse: Laureate portrait of Ferdinand I to the right. Legend around the portrait. Mint mark C under the bust, corresponding to Prague. Reverse: Imperial double-headed crowned eagle, bearing the value 3 at the center. Date 1838. Specifications Country: Austria Sovereign: Ferdinand I Value: 3 Kreuzer Year: 1838 Mint: Prague Mint mark: C Metal: billon / low-grade silver Weight of the first specimen: 1.68 g Weight of the second specimen: 1.68 g Total weight: 3.36 g Condition Two uncirculated specimens, preserving very fine reliefs as well as a strong metallic lustre. The portraits are particularly sharp, as are the imperial eagles, the legends and the various engraving details. A few minor surface handling or conservation marks may be observed in the fields, but without notable circulation wear. The difference in style between the two portraits is a particularly interesting element for collectors of Austrian coins or coin varieties. The two photographed coins are exactly those offered in this lot. The photographs are an integral part of the description.
