A Aztec Terracotta Globular Jar, 13th to early 16th Century A.D. Large and impressive reddish terracotta globular jar (olla) with a wide mouth, short neck, and two small lug handles. The vessel is beautifully decorated with bold black geometric motifs — parallel lines, stepped patterns, and bands — painted over a rich orange-red slip. The surface shows attractive natural wear, craquelure, and a deep patina consistent with domestic or ritual use. This magnificent piece stands as a silent witness to one of the most dramatic moments in human history: the fusion of indigenous Mesoamerican (Aztec) civilization with the arriving Spanish world during the Conquest period (1519–1521). It lived through the final years of the Aztec Empire and the turbulent birth of New Spain. Height: 12.5 cm Width: 13.0 cm Depth: 13.0 cm Provenance: German private collection, acquired in Germany in the 1950s. We guarantee the authenticity of the pieces, backed by the combined experience of our experts spanning more than 40 years. A Certificate of Authenticity (CoA) will be sent digitally by email. This item has been legally acquired in accordance with European law.
