BAOULE SCULPTURE

Ca. late 19th - early 20th century AD. > A fine Baoule sculpture carved with elongated proportions, displaying the refined naturalism characteristic of Baoule carving traditions. The head is crowned with a high, carefully modelled coiffure, while the face is rendered with narrow almond-shaped eyes, a straight nose, and gently parted lips. The slender torso is subtly articulated, with the hands placed along the abdomen. Strands of beads are worn across the shoulders and chest. The figure stands on a circular base. Figures of this type are associated with Baoule spiritual traditions, often representing idealised ancestral or spirit forms. > > Size: 445mm x 90mm; Weight: 950g > Provenance: Prince Collection, 1990s-2014; ex Joaquin Pecci, Oct. 25 2012. > This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter. >
