All auctions / Furniture, Design & Mirrors / Baroque style Architectural ornament (2) - 1780–1820 - Large castle consoles

Pair of monumental antique wooden consoles – 123 cm high – richly carved. According to provenance originally from a German castle. About 1820, possibly older. Impressive matching pair of antique wooden architectural ornaments, presumably from the early 19th century. Possibly older. The consoles are richly executed with large scrolls, bulbous decorations, profiled moldings and graceful hanging ends. Due to their substantial size and deep relief they form a striking ensemble. They were probably part of a monumental interior carpentry or framing. The exact original application and origin are unknown. The wood bears remnants of old light paint coatings. The weathered finish gives the ornaments a lot of character. They show signs of age and use, including cracks, paint loss and local damage. View the detail photos for condition. Dimensions per piece: approximately 123 cm high × 40 cm wide × 25 cm deep Provenance: They were taken by the private owner as heirlooms from Germany and have served as wall decoration both at home and later in a shop. Especially decorative as wall ornaments, for a characterful interior or for a restoration project. For example as a mirror surround or fireplace surround The photos form an integral part of the description.
