The amber stones adorning this pair of cufflinks, dating from around 1930, shine in a wonderfully warm cognac colour. The genuine natural amber stones are cut into oval cabochons and feature numerous sparkling sunbeams inside. Sunbeams are disc-shaped structures in amber that can form when the amber is heated—a process known as “clarification.” Gas bubbles contained within the amber expand under the influence of heat, creating the characteristic reflective fissures. Their decorative sparkle was certainly intentional and lends the stones an added vibrancy. Tiltable counter-buttons made of engraved gold allow for easy fastening to a shirt cuff. With their combination of warm, luminous amber and understated settings, these cufflinks are a distinctive and versatile piece of Art Deco men’s jewellery.
