Belgian Jacquard Tapestry after Raphael – Madonna della Seggiola

Elegant decorative woven tapestry in jacquard gobelin technique, reproducing the famous composition Madonna della Seggiola (Madonna of the Chair) by Raphael (Raffaello Sanzio). The composition depicts the Virgin Mary with the Child Jesus in her arms, accompanied by the young Saint John the Baptist. The scene is set within an oval medallion and surrounded by an elaborate ornamental frieze with floral and vegetal motifs. The weave shows careful craftsmanship, with a wide range of greens, pinks, creams, ochres and grays, reproducing through the textile weave the volumes, expressions and details of the characters’ garments. The background and the frieze also feature ornamental classical-inspired decoration.
