Bell shrine - Bronze, A Japanese bronze bonshō temple bell - 1850-1900

A finely cast bronze temple bell modeled after the traditional Japanese bonshō, the large bells used in Buddhist temples. The domed crown is surmounted by a finely sculpted ryūzu, formed by two confronted dragons, while the body is decorated with the characteristic raised bosses (nyū) arranged in regular panels above horizontal reinforcing bands. The rich, naturally aged patina enhances the surface. Executed with balanced proportions and good casting quality, this elegant reduced-scale example was likely intended for a private Buddhist altar, a devotional setting, or as a prestigious ornamental object inspired by monumental temple bells. ---The bell is in good condition, patina with oxidations. Please refer to the pictures for further details. The item will be carefully packed and shipped accompanied by the original certificate of authenticity issued by Mastromauro Japanese art gallery based in Milan, Italy. 153
