Bernard Aubertin (Fontenay-aux-Roses, France, 1934 - Reutlingen 2015) attributed to “De Feu fiammiferi bruciati” candles and acrylic on canvas Measurements: 40.5 x 46 cm in frame Painting: 30 x 24 cm Provenance: Private Collection Period: 1990 Attribution note Bernard Aubertin (Fontenay-aux-Roses, France, 1934 – Reutlingen, Germany, 2015) The work is presented as attributed to Bernard Aubertin in consideration of the stylistic and technical characteristics attributable to the artistic production of the French master. Although elements compatible with the artist's expressive language are found, the lack of signature, authenticity certificates and further documentary corroboration does not allow, at present, to confirm with certainty the autograph. Therefore, for reasons of historical-artistic rigor and transparency towards collectors, it is deemed appropriate to propose the work with the wording «Attributed to Bernard Aubertin», pending any further investigations and attribution verifications. Bernard Aubertin (Fontenay-aux-Roses, France, 1934 - Reutlingen 2015). After an apprenticeship at the School of Decorative Arts, he met Yves Klein, who in 1958 moved him toward the creation of red monochrome boards. Red would be the artist's favored hue, reminding him of fire and blood. In 1961 he joined the Zero group of Düsseldorf and the Nul of Amsterdam, later coming into contact with Fontana and Manzoni. Together with monochrome canvases, he produced his first fire boards and burnt books, associating matches, fuses and small explosives, thus allowing the combustion of the book. He is drawn to the reflection of the flame, its sinuous movement and the destructive process of fire. His artistic activity is divided between Paris, Brest and Italy; numerous solo exhibitions and other recognitions. Currently his monochrome works have moved to tones of gold, and white and black. * The frame is attached as a courteous gesture; it is an additional element to the artwork that we include as a courtesy. Therefore no disputes are accepted regarding possible transport damage (though very rare) that may occur to the frame alone. Our works travel in total safety with protective and professional packaging and insured shipping
