Between the Heath and the Horizon - Gary Westall

Between the Heath and the Horizon by Gary Westall Painting 9.5 x 11.8 :: This painting was created during the biennial plein air event in the Kirchdorfer Heide. I painted the landscape on site trying to capture that special moment of light color and atmosphere. I was particularly drawn to the interplay of the different elements of the landscape: the bright yellow meadow the dark forest in the background and the rich reddish-purple tones in the foreground. For me the solitary tree forms the focal point of the painting. With its widely spreading branches it connects the various areas of the landscape and lends the composition its vertical tension.
