Biblical scene in high relief, Flemish or French School, 16th-17th century

Descriptio High-relief carved wood with a dark patina. Measures 66 x 55 x 6 cm. This sculptural group, with its complex narrative composition, unfolds a theological scene around a seated central figure holding an open book, surrounded by bearded male figures arranged beneath an architectural framework of pilasters and entablatures. The figures on either side display meditative and solemn attitudes, with deeply chiseled drapery that lends dynamism and monumentality. The composition reveals influences of late Renaissance sculpture and Northern Mannerism, perceptible in the elongated figures and the restrained theatricality of their gestures. The quality of the carving, the volumetric richness, and the expressive intensity underscore the high technical level of the work, likely conceived as an altarpiece element or liturgical furnishings. The warm, antique patina reinforces the spiritual drama and visual depth of the whole. 66 x 55 x 6 cm. Lot in international warehouse (within the EU). Intra-EU shipment: no import duties apply within the EU. Export permit from the country of origin may be required. Due to its age and history of use, this lot may show signs of wear and previous interventions. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, no specialized technical testing has been performed.
