Kai Nielsen Bing & Grøndahl earthenware figurine no. 22: nursing woman with grapes. Beautiful, rare museum-quality sculpture from the series "Grape Harvest" in excellent condition (see photos) The sculpture shows a voluptuous nude, nursing woman with a cluster of grapes. Excellent condition (see photos) For the Danish sculptor Kai Nielsen (1882-1924), the naked human body formed a central theme in his oeuvre. He produced large-scale works on commission, such as the figures on Blågårds Plads in Copenhagen and The Water-Mother, which is on display in the winter garden of Ny Carlsberg. The series of figurines by the Danish sculptor Kai Nielsen featuring satyrs (fauns) and grapevines (or grapes) is officially known as the "Grape Harvest" series, designed in 1912 for the famous Danish porcelain factory Bing & Grøndahl. Key features of the series: The series depicts mythological figures, specifically satyrs (fauns) and human figures (men, women and children) sensually and playfully entangled with oversized grape clusters and grapevines. The figurines are made of sturdy stoneware, often finished with characteristic gray, brown, or greenish glazes typical of early 20th-century Danish ceramics. Kai Nielsen combines in this series classical mythology with a highly expressive, sensuous, and organic form, strongly influenced by the French sculptor Auguste Rodin. Carefully packed and shipped with tracked and insured delivery. Good luck with your bidding!!
