BISSIER (Julius). — Julius Bissier 1893–1965. First Retrospe - Lot 36

BISSIER (Julius). — Julius Bissier 1893–1965. First Retrospective of Indian Ink Wash Drawings. Geneva, Artel Galerie, n.d. Quarto, publisher’s cardboard binding illustrated with a composition by the artist. Catalog of the first retrospective devoted to the Indian ink wash drawings of Julius Bissier (1893–1965), a German painter whose work occupies a unique place in 20th-century European abstraction. Numerous black-and-white reproductions of compositions executed in Chinese ink, notably works dated 1957. The volume reflects the artist’s quest for a refined pictorial language, akin to Eastern calligraphy, based on the balance of forms, gesture, and meditation. A fine copy.
