Ring Black Chalama Opal / Cabochon / new In 925 Sterling Silver set 9.5 mm x 7.7 mm Weight: 2.74 g New and unworn Ring size: U 60 UK S US 9.1 FR 20 Inner diameter: 19.1 mm Black opals, like their other-colored counterparts, occur as a rounded to nodular mass without a recognisable crystal structure. Their beauty usually reveals itself only after the lapidary work on them. Characteristic of this form of opal is their opalescence, which shows itself in an intense rainbow sheen. Moreover, the host rock of the opal here is dark, grayish to black, which earned it this name. Black opals, like other opals, form from silica-rich fluids that crystallize in sedimentary or volcanic rocks. Their characteristic shimmer is due to water inclusions inside this mineral.
