Rare first edition of the celebrated and esteemed critical-linguistic study on the Divine Comedy by the German philologist and Dante scholar Ludwig Gottfried Blanc. Considered a true cornerstone of 19th-century Dantean lexicography, the work was described by Fiske as "...it may be called an 'epoch-making' book in the history of the study of Dante" (Fiske I, 136). L. G. Blanc, Vocabolario Dantesco ou Dictionnaire critique et raisonné de la Divine Comedy de Dante Allighieri, Leipsic, Jean Ambroise Barth, 1852. PP.: VIII, (II), 562, (II). COMPLETE. A specimen with leaves in overall very good condition, with the usual signs of use and time. Contemporary binding in half green morocco with boards covered in green goffered paper; title and author impressed in gold on the spine. Endpapers present. Noteworthy are the ordinary signs of wear to the spine and corners, but good overall preservation."
