BOLIVIA. 8 Reales, 1769-PTS JR. Potosi Mint. Charles III. PCGS Genuine--Harshly

BOLIVIA. 8 Reales, 1769-PTS JR. Potosi Mint. Charles III. PCGS Genuine--Harshly Cleaned, EF Details. KM-50; Yonaka-P8-69d. Variety with curved/round 9, pellets bracketing both mintmarks and flanked by four-petalled florets and stop after "CAROLUS". A fairly RARE variety that seldom appears on the market, this moderately worn example offers boldly struck devices with even wear. A few hints of tone near the edge add a bit of contrast. Unfortunately, this piece has been harshly cleaned long ago, now somewhat subdued. Overall a presentable example of the tough to locate issue that is sure to excite variety collectors. According the Brad Yonaka, author of "A Variety Guide to the Pillar Coinage of the Guatemala, Bogota, Lima, Potosi, and Santiago Mints 1751-1772", he only observed one die pair and three examples for this variety. Estimate: $500 - $700. Click here for certification details from PCGS.
