BOUGAINVILLE (Louis-Antoine de). Voyage Around the World, aboard the King’s frigate *La Boudeuse* and the flute *L’Étoile*, in 1766, 1767, 1768, and 1769. Neuchâtel: Printed by the Typographical Society, 1772. — FRÉVILLE. Supplement to the Voyage of M. de Bougainville, or Journal of a Voyage Around the World, undertaken by Messrs. Banks & Solander. Ibid., 1773. Set of 2 works in 3 in-8 volumes, veined calfskin, triple gilt fillet, smooth decorated spine, red title label, red edges (contemporary binding). Account of the voyage of Bougainville (1729–1811), who led the first French scientific circumnavigation; the original edition appeared in quarto format in Paris in 1769. This Swiss edition from 1772 does not appear to be illustrated. French translation by de Fréville of the travel account by naturalists Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander, who were part of James Cook’s first round-the-world expedition between 1768 and 1771. Wet stamp and Bibliothèque Broussonnet bookplate on the title pages. Beautifully bound in period binding. Scuffing on the fore-edges and spine; a small loss on one cap and one title label; wormholes at the bottom of two spines.
