BOUILHET (Louis). Quatrains, Scraps, and Trimmings. Unpublished and Unpublishable Works. No place, no date. Large quarto manuscript of 53 numbered pages, green half-cloth Bradel binding with corners, smooth spine adorned with a gilt fleur-de-lis, burgundy title label, untrimmed (Binding circa 1900). A beautiful manuscript on Japanese paper, illustrated with 26 original watercolors and drawings by A. Robaudi, with numerous ornate letters. Among the poems by Louis Bouilhet (1821–1869), Flaubert’s close friend, we note a Rabelaisian quatrain, “Le Chœur de mouche à viande,” *Le Déjeuner de Durandeau*, and *Au moineau de Mademoiselle M. D.* Included at the beginning is a receipt from Monsieur Droin for the sum of one hundred fifty francs for a copy on Japanese paper of the *Unpublished Works of Louis Bouilhet*, signed “Lemay,” stamped, and dated in pen on April 2, 1884; and bound at the end, a set of printer’s proofs without handwritten corrections, containing in particular the text *Chorus of Meat Flies* (8 sheets).
